As always it's food for thought indeed. Nice one.Tony Ez Esmondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15313207959809606041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7608869657890826712.post-134773170788006362011-04-16T09:04:29.370-07:002011-04-16T09:04:29.370-07:00I don't know if I'm the right person to co...I don't know if I'm the right person to comment because I don't frequent any comic shops. I live near Croydon which has Forbidden Planet and A Place in Space, but I usually look what trades have been released in these shops and then go home and order them from Amazon (only if they are cheaper). I don't think that I'm the only one that does this. So if LCS closed would I still buy from Amazon I hear you ask? Which I don't really know the answer but I can't imagine not buying trades on recommendation from friends and podcasts.

The social aspect of a LCS is something I have never really participated in. I don't know if that is a shyness on my part or just never feeling comfortable talking about comics in a shop. Strange how the mind works sometimes.

People tell me that buying trades is bad for the industry, but I somehow think that it will survive and I do believe that digital is the future. Are we trying to save record shops from mp3 downloads?
I'm know that there are still record shops selling vinyl so why can't LCS survive selling back issues and merchandise?

I find it sad that the new influx of readers seems to get smaller each year but I don't think you can put it solely down to video games. When I grew up, comics were plentiful and printed on cheap paper but also cheap to buy. This as a kid was a great incentive to buy more, so I could read more about the universes I love. Thats why I think cheap comic downloads could help the industry but not the LCS.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03851568870156319939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7608869657890826712.post-76949455132084780432011-04-16T04:57:47.565-07:002011-04-16T04:57:47.565-07:00This is liam not ash btw. This is liam not ash btw.2badguyshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11456538558181900971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7608869657890826712.post-7136713692858159962011-04-16T04:57:16.298-07:002011-04-16T04:57:16.298-07:00Great post. The only time I had an actual standing order with a shop was when I lived in Finsbury Park, round the corner from Fantastic Realm, which sadly went bust. They really did not get comics as a medium, selling primarily superheroes and alternate covers, you had to order in special anything remotely off the beaten path.2badguyshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11456538558181900971noreply@blogger.com
