Alagg - Strip 58.

Alagg - The Print Edition.

The scripts and concept art are now flying for the Alagg print edition coming later this year.  It'll be an all new story in a more traditional comics format than the three panel strips we have posted so far on the blog and deviant art (as well as http://www.esssentialwebcomics.com/ too - obviously).

We'll be posting teaser images and hopefully will have a few pages to shop about at The New York Comic convention in October.

It's looking very cool indeed.

Alagg - Strip 57.

RIP Gene Colan.

I was woken today by my compardre Paul Rose texting me to tell me that we lost Gene Colan.

Gene was one of my all time favourite artists and I was lucky enough to meet him at a New York Comic Convention a few years ago.  He and his wife were very friendly to me and I consider it an honour that he spent that time chatting to me.  Even then he wasn't a well man.

We really have lost a great.  His individual style was a feast to the eye and carried so much mood and intensity.

There is so much to say about the great man and his work that I am sure it will be said better elsewhere.  I just wanted to say that he will be missed.

RIP Gene Colan 1926 - 2011.

Alagg Competition.

If you head over to Paul's (the artist on Alagg) Deviant Art Page there is a competition to get yourself included as a character in the web comic.

Just surf the images and you can see that the best reviews go in a hat to be drawn next week.

Go on you know that you want to be a character in a comic (and we promise to be kind!)

The Boy Wonder Reviews (Green Lantern Movie).

As part of our ongoing reviews by my son (a 14 year old comics fan).  He has decided to review the Green Lantern Movie that we saw this morning (Father's Day) in 3D.

He started by writing about what he wanted to see in the movie and then moved on afterwards to what he thought of it.

Have a read.

PS - Spoilers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Green Lantern - The Movie.

Cert - 12A.

What I'd Like To See In The Movie.

1.  Imaginative Ring Creations and Weapons (tick).
2.  The Guardians being called 'smurfs' by Guy Gardener. (no tick).
3.  A scene involving the different rings.  (half a tick).
4.  See Green Lanterns Mogo and Green Man.  (no tick).
5.  Batman knocking out Guy Gardner with one punch.  (no tick).

Score - 1 and a half out of 5.

What I Thought Of The Movie.

I did enjoy this film.  Especially the training of Hal on Oa.  The special effects on Oa were very good but strangely lacked the colour green.  The ring creations used in the film were very imaginative and not always the normal chainsaws and swords.

My favourite character was Sinestro.  He was just brimming with arrogance and the actor who played him did a very good job in my opinion.

Though the movie did lack an imaginative storyline and parts of the story did not seem to fit in with the rest of the movie.  But overall it was a good film.  Remember to stay there at the end of the credits for an expected but interesting scene.

Acting - 8 out of 10.
Special Effects - 10 out of 10.
Overall Movie - 8 out of 10.

DC Reboot. The Boy Wonder Speaks.

After visiting the LCS this morning myself and my 14 year old comic reading son got talking about the DC Comics reboot and what we would like to see happen.

I tasked him with writing a little something on what character he would like to see in his own comic again and why.

What follows are his thoughts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Return of Blue Beetle.

I would like the Blue Beetle to return to comics for many reasons.

Firstly it is refreshing to have a superhero who does not actually want to be a hero.  As was shown in one of his comics his dream was to be a dentist.  Not wanting to be a hero keeps him honest and you can tell that he will never turn in to a power hungry psychopath.

Secondly the conversation he has with his scarab helps give the story a 'partner feel' without all those 'sidekick in danger' issues.  This makes sure that most issues are good action packed stories which will always keep me interested.

Thirdly.  Why the hell not!  It must make money as a comic.  If it didn't why are they putting the character in to the Smallville tv series.

It's a good comic, good art and a good story.  If it makes money why did they cancel it?

Bring it back it is only logical.

So there you have it.
