The Boy Wonder Reviews – Justice League 1.

It’s been a few months but we finally got round to doing another ‘Boy Wonder Reviews’ section here at Never Iron Anything.  For those new to it let me explain.  I have a 14 year old son who between being embarrassed by his father and doing his (actually quite difficult) maths homework has a pull list at our local comic shop (Chaos City Comics in St Albans, UK).

From time to time I get him to write me a review that gives us a little insight into the mind of a teenager who is getting in to comics.

Here goes.

Justice League 1.

Writer – Geoff Johns.
Artist – Jim Lee.
Inker – Scott Williams.
Colourist – Alex Sinclair.
Letterer – Patrick Brosseau.

Publisher – DC Comics.

I think the new start looks good.  It’s obvious that the writers have put a lot of thought into the new versions of each character.  I really like the new Batman and how he has kept his lone crusader theme but is now more open and trusting than before.  Though it is clear that he will never like Green Lantern.

The artwork is as good as usual but the expressions are a lot more complex and well drawn from what I have come to expect.  Also the Lantern creations are more interesting than the straightforward shapes that appear in some of DC’s other comics.

All the costumes are now more realistic with Batman’s costume looking a lot more like armour than something he just cut out of the curtains.  Though all of them share the same high collar.  But the artist has definitely done something right with all of them.

In regards to the story they have chosen a good way of making the characters meet but they show their hand a bit too early by revealing the first enemy to be Darkseid and they should have made it a mystery then revealed him later.  However overall it is an exciting start and I look forward to the rest of the story.

Story – 8 out of 10.
Art – 8 out of 10.

I am looking forward to.

  1. Blue Beetle.
  2. Teen Titans.
  3. Green Lantern Corps.
  4. Nightwing.
  5. Static Shock.

Well there we go.  He has spoken.
